1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device so it can recognise your browser on later visits or between pages. Local storage is a similar browser mechanism that holds slightly more data and does not expire automatically. We use both, and for the purposes of this policy and the law we treat them the same way.
Cookies are either "first-party", set by us, or "third-party", set by another company whose service we use. They can be "session" cookies that vanish when you close the browser, or "persistent" cookies that stay until a set date.
2. How consent works on this site
When you first visit, a banner at the bottom of the page offers three choices. Accept All enables essential, analytics and functional cookies. Reject Non-Essential enables essential cookies only. Preferences lets you switch analytics and functional cookies on or off individually. Your choice is saved in local storage under the key ppsp-cookie-consent, so the banner does not reappear on other pages or on your next visit. No analytics or functional cookie is set until you have made a choice that permits it.
To change your mind, clear this site's storage in your browser (instructions below) and reload; the banner will return.
3. The cookies we use
| Name | Category | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
ppsp-cookie-consent | Essential | Us (local storage) | Records your cookie choice so the banner is not shown again | Until cleared; we treat consent as expiring after 12 months |
ppsp_session | Essential | Us | Protects the contact form against automated abuse and cross-site request forgery | Session |
__stripe_mid | Essential | Stripe | Fraud prevention when you pay for a workshop or order through a Stripe payment link | 12 months |
_ga | Analytics | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another so we can count visits and popular pages | 24 months |
_ga_G8T2KQ4M1P | Analytics | Google Analytics | Maintains session state for the current visit | 24 months |
_gid | Analytics | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors over a 24-hour window | 24 hours |
ppsp_prefs | Functional | Us | Remembers display preferences such as which guide you last read and whether you dismissed a notice | 6 months |
4. Categories explained
Essential
These are needed for the site to function and cannot be switched off through the banner. They do not track you across other sites. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website.
Analytics
These help us understand how the site is used: which guides are read, how visitors arrive, and which pages people leave from. We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled and Google Signals disabled, and we do not link analytics data to any personal data we hold. Set only with your consent. You can also block Google Analytics in every browser using the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Functional
These remember choices you have made so the site behaves the way you left it. Nothing breaks without them; you simply lose the convenience. Set only with your consent.
We do not use advertising or targeting cookies of any kind.
5. Managing cookies in your browser
Every modern browser lets you see, block and delete cookies and local storage. Blocking essential cookies may stop the contact form working. Instructions for the most common browsers:
- Google Chrome — Settings › Privacy and security › Third-party cookies, or Site settings › Cookies and site data. Chrome help: clear, allow and manage cookies.
- Mozilla Firefox — Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data › Manage Data. Firefox help: Enhanced Tracking Protection.
- Apple Safari — Safari › Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data. Safari help: manage cookies and website data.
- Microsoft Edge — Settings › Cookies and site permissions › Manage and delete cookies and site data. Edge help: delete cookies.
On mobile, the equivalent settings are under Privacy in each browser's settings menu. Deleting site data for pickpantrystorypuls.com removes your consent record and the banner will appear again on your next visit.
6. Changes to this policy
If we add or remove a cookie we will update the table above and the version number. If a change means we need fresh consent — for example, adding a new analytics provider — the banner will be shown again on your next visit.
7. Contact
