Nata workshops, private hire and catering

Three ways to get more of the bakery than a visit allows: learn to laminate and bake a dozen natas yourself, take over the café for an evening, or have breakfast delivered to your office. Below are the formats, the prices, the lead times and the small print.

The nata workshop

The workshop runs for two and a half hours in the bakery kitchen after the morning bake is done. Groups are capped at ten so everyone gets a station, a rolling pin and a tray. You will laminate a dough we have started for you (a full lamination takes two days), coil and cut it, press your own tins, cook a custard from scratch, fill, bake at 290°C and eat the results warm. Coffee and a pastry are served on arrival; a glass of vinho verde is served at the end.

Each participant leaves with an apron, a printed recipe adapted for domestic ovens, and a box of twelve of their own natas. Sessions are taught in English and Portuguese by our head baker or one of two senior bakers. No experience is needed; children from eight upwards are welcome in the family session.

  • Saturday 10:00 — public session, €65 per person.
  • Wednesday 18:30 — public session, €65 per person.
  • Sunday 10:00 — family session, €40 per adult-and-child pair, additional child €20.
  • Private session — any day we are closed to workshops, €550 for up to ten people, €55 for each additional person up to fourteen.

Private hire

The café closes to the public at 19:00 and can be yours from then until 23:00 (Tuesday to Thursday) or 23:30 (Friday and Saturday). The room seats thirty at tables or holds forty-five standing, with the counter as a bar. Two staff are included. There is no hire fee; instead there is a minimum spend on food and drink, €350 midweek and €500 at weekends, which most groups reach comfortably with a nata and pastry table and a few bottles of wine.

We serve wine and beer under our own licence, so you cannot bring your own. We do not have a kitchen for hot dinners, but we can arrange a Portuguese petiscos spread — cheeses, cured meats, olives, tinned fish on broa — at €14 per person. Music is fine at conversation level; the neighbours upstairs are also our regulars.

For offices, meetings and events we deliver breakfast trays and nata boxes across central Lisbon. Everything is baked that morning and delivered between 08:00 and 10:30, or at a time you specify with 48 hours' notice.

Workshop or private hire?

Private workshop

  • Hands-on, structured, everyone leaves with something they made.
  • Fixed price makes budgeting simple: €550 for ten.
  • Kitchen space caps it at fourteen; not suitable for large groups.

Private hire

  • Relaxed, social, holds up to forty-five.
  • No fixed fee, but the minimum spend applies whether or not you reach it.
  • Evening only, and no hot food beyond petiscos.

Booking and cancellation

Workshops and private events are booked through the contact form or by email; we confirm within one working day and take full payment for workshops, or a €150 deposit for private hire, by bank transfer or card link. Catering is invoiced after delivery for repeat business clients and paid in advance for first orders.

  • Cancel more than 72 hours ahead: full refund.
  • Cancel 48 to 72 hours ahead: 50% refund.
  • Cancel within 48 hours: no refund, but we will reschedule once free of charge.
  • If we cancel — a broken oven, a strike, a heatwave that makes lamination impossible — you receive a full refund or a new date, your choice.

Gift vouchers for the public workshop are €65, valid for twelve months from purchase, and can be posted or emailed.

Workshops sell out about three weeks ahead in spring and autumn. If you have a fixed date, book early and tell us if anyone has allergies — we can run an egg-free custard station with notice.
